Jean Tirole’s
research covers industrial organization, regulation, finance, macroeconomics and banking, and psychology-based economics. He has published over two hundred articles in international reviews, as well as twelve scientific books. Published in English in 2017, his latest book entitled “Economics for the Common Good” is accessible to a wide audience and available in a number of languages. He is laureate of numerous international distinctions, including the 2014 Sveriges Riksbank prize in economic sciences in memory of Alfred Nobel. Jean Tirole is honorary chairman of the Foundation JJ Laffont-Toulouse School of Economics (TSE) and of the Institute for Advanced Study in Toulouse (IAST), and he also holds a visiting position at MIT.

Our formal program will feature welcome remarks by Dean Sevin Yeltekin and brief remarks and speaker introduction by Gerald L. Gitner’s son, Seth. Seth Gitner is an Associate Professor of Magazine, News & Digital Journalism and Visual Communications at the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University. 


 About Gerald L. Gitner ’68S (MBA) and the Endowed Lecture Series

 

A world-renowned leader in the aviation industry, Gerald L. Gitner ’68S (MBA) has served as Chairman and CEO of TWA, Chairman of Kitty Hawk, Inc., co-founder and President of People Express, President of Texas Air (Continental Airlines), Vice Chairman of Pan Am World Airways, Chief Financial Officer of Pan American World Airlines. Additionally, he has held the position of CEO of Pan Am World Services and has served as a director in over 30 publicly traded and privately owned corporations.

Gerry excels not only in business but also demonstrates unwavering philanthropic support for higher education, displaying a longstanding commitment to the Simon Business School. Alongside this lecture series, he has established the Gerald and Deanne Gitner Scholarship and the Gerald and Deanne Gitner Prize for Teaching Excellence at the Simon Business School, aimed at supporting outstanding tenure-track faculty working with master’s or undergraduate students. Gerry's involvement extends to his membership on the Simon Advisory Council, as well as his service as a Trustee at Boston University, R.I.T., and as a member of the Chancellor’s Council for the University of Missouri (St. Louis).

Inaugurated in 2024, the Gerald L. Gitner Lecture Series aims to host distinguished speakers who will engage with students, faculty, and alumni, fostering discussions on government policy and its ramifications for business, the broader economy, and society.
