The University of Rochester Women’s Network makes mental health a priority. You’re invited to join the Women’s Network this Mental Health Awareness Month to learn about resources available to students during a panel with representatives from the Mobile Crisis Unit, the CARE Network, and the Psychiatry Department. Hear firsthand about the diverse range of resources supported by the unwavering investment of the Women’s Network's dedicated funds.

A Q&A with event attendees will follow the panel discussion.

Alex Samors, Director, CARE Network

Alex Samors is a licensed social worker and has served as the director of the CARE Network since December 2022. Alex oversees professional staff and campus partners to ensure students are connected quickly to the best resource for support, in addition to coordinating with University-wide CARE partners in support of the whole student body. Alex comes from progressive leadership roles in Academic Success and Coaching, Disability & Access Services, and Case Management.



Michael Scharf, Psychiatrist-in-Chief at URMC Golisano Children’s Hospital, Chief of the Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Director of Psychiatry Graduate Medical Education

Michael Scharf completed medical school at the State University of New York at Buffalo and Residency training in Psychiatry and fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the University of Rochester, where he continued as faculty since completing training in 2003. He is currently the Psychiatrist-in-Chief at URMC Golisano Children’s Hospital and Chief of the Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. A career-long educator, he also serves as director of Psychiatry Graduate Medical Education. He is a founding member of the Rochester Youth Violence Partnership, a hospital-based violence intervention program, and the local site leader for Project TEACH: a NY State-wide program to provide education and clinical consultation to primary care doctors as they care for the mental health needs of children and families. Scharf is dedicated to ensuring access to quality mental health care for all children and adolescents in the Greater Rochester Region.



Carrie Meeks, Clinical Director, URMC Mobile Crisis Team and Crisis Call Line

Carrie Meeks, LMHC, joined the URMC Mobile Crisis Team in 2016 as a Crisis Therapist and transitioned to the Clinical Director role in 2022. The Mobile Crisis Team responds to those in need of emergency psychiatric care, directly in their home or setting of choice in the community, providing a much needed alternative to emergency room services within Monroe County. Carrie is a University of Rochester alumni, having completed her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology in 2005. She holds a Master’s Degree in Forensic Mental Health Counseling from John Jay College and draws from a wealth of experience in her work in the juvenile justice field, where she provided services for youth and their families in community-based programs, residential settings, and secure detention.
